January 9, 2012, CES, Las Vegas—Sharp celebrated their 100th anniversary and 50 years in the USA by introducing a number of 80" displays. Watch the full press conference at http://youtu.be/4ItzT1p8Oco.
One product family is an 80-inch e-board with integrated Windows computer and touch controls. This is an interactive office product to replace whiteboards. Other models in the family have smaller screens, 60- and 70 –inch, with the same functionality. The displays are targeting functions like video conferencing and group interaction and will displace room-size projectors and static whiteboards.
Continuing on the 80-inch lines, a new 3-D LCD with full area LED backlighting with local dimming and the 4-color Aquos color filters. The 60+ sized screens have built-in WiFi and apps. The new customizable SmartCentral interface is designed to be the hub of the Sharp TV experience. Models incorporating the full screen SmartCentral interface feature picture-in-picture, content search, and web browsing capability. In addition, users will be able to set up to four members of the household with a customizable interface and favorites for each user. Another smart feature is Sharp AQUOS Beamzit, a free media-sharing app that allows users to wirelessly send photos, music and video to a Sharp AQUOS Wi-Fi enabled television from their iOS or Android smart phone or tablet.
To complement the displays, the also introduced new Blu-Ray players and a sound bar with wireless subwoofer. The sound bars are adjustable to match the width of the display. The Blu-Ray players have both wireless and USB connectivity for SmartCentral connectivity as well as the HDMI ports. A High Definition Mobile Link (MHL) allows connections to smart phones.
The CEA considers the introduction of the large screens worthy of an Innovations Design and Engineering Award.
