Zeo Measures Sleep
January 10, 2012, CES, Las Vegas—Zeo showed off an EEG monitor with software optimized for sleep monitoring. The product measures and tracks brainwave patterns and delivers them wirelessly to a bedside display or Bluetooth-enabled device.
The hardware is a small module that uses a headband or an adhesive strip to mount the module on the forehead. The software tracks sleep stages and measures time asleep, number of times you woke up, and time in REM and deep sleep. By combining sleep measurements with a self-guided journal, the user can see correlations with activities and quality of sleep.

Zeo has a number of tools and coaching programs to help improve sleep quality and even integrates the sleep cycle information into your alarm to wake you when you are most easily awakened. Trend analysis and other analytics are included or are available on line for the system.
The ability to measure, monitor, and track sleep cycles is important to the user's health. The quality of sleep can impact physical and mental health. Improving sleep quality can improve learning and memory, helps regulate metabolism, and reduces the risks of heart disease and cancer.

Although not within their focus, the EEG monitor could also be used to measure and track other brain functions after serious medical situations like a concussion. A wireless EEG is much less intrusive than waking the person every few hours to see if they are still functioning. These and similar functions would require new software to provide alarms rather than just tracking trends.
