Imagine Comm brings next stage of storage to IBC
September 2016 – At IBC 2016, Imagine Communications introduced their next offering in the area of media storage. Historically, the storage component of a media flow was a physical presence of a SAN, NAS or DAS device. Modern flows now need to work from a Virtual IP base, and this requires a redesign of where storage fits into the flow.
The new solution is called IOX and is initially integrated with e Versio and Telurio packages. The IOX platform is a transition solution to full virtual storage in the cloud. It is being managed as a part of the hybrid solution. The solution is part storage and part data patterns which make up part of the playback system. The storage is a critical piece of the data “get” solutions that drive the ingest to products like the Telurio packager. The Telurio Packager uses adaptive streaming to package video content for streaming services such as live/linear TV, catch-up TV and video-on-demand. The Telurio Packager in combination with the new Telurio IOX allow linear and file-based video content to be delivered to multiple screens including mobile devices, laptops, tablets, televisions, and other streaming screens.
Typically, the Telurio Packager ingests H.264-encoded video streams carried in an MPEG-2 transport stream (TS) and creates outputs in all of the major adaptive streaming protocols — Apple HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), Microsoft Smooth Streaming (MSS), Adobe HTTP Dynamic Streaming (HDS), MPEG DASH and RTMP formats. It can also encrypt the data traffic using standard AES-128 for HLS or PlayReady for Smooth Streaming, integrating key exchange with leading digital rights management key servers. The Telurio IOX solution is architected to manage the 1000’s to 1M’s of content data sets that are needed for playout for broadcast and streaming.
Versio™ IOX Storage device delivers high levels of bandwidth and storage to support demanding media workflows. This high-performance online storage system is specifically designed for broadcast and production facilities, including news, sports and live-event applications with integrated digital asset protection.
The system has a flexible capacity & bandwidth which allows for the scaling of storage & bandwidth as needs grow, without affecting existing media or interrupting on-air operations. For practical applications in the broadcast operations space the solution features a High Availability design. This allows for no performance degradation in the event of multiple and simultaneous failures in the unit. To support true collaboration the systems shared storage access eliminates file copying providing a shorter time to air.
The appliances reduce capital costs by providing an economical entry-level storage which supports pay-as-you-go storage expansion. The appliances are scalable to over a petabyte of online shared storage with RAID-601 storage protection. The device has support for both Ethernet and Fibre Channel client connections, along with Redundant, high-performance 16 Gb/s Fibre Channel connections to the Versio) IOX Storage core storage sub-system, with active/active redundant RAID controllers. The HA aspects of the device support Ten Gigabits per second of assured streaming bandwidth, even during degraded or rebuilding modes. The systems RAID-601 is the core of the high availability capability, protecting against drive, controller and storage chassis failures, while maintaining system throughput
Nexio RAIDsoft™ striping increases bandwidth and patented Nexio Intrinsic Mirroring™ ensures content availability.
