LG Shows More Screens
June 15, 2012, Infocomm, Las Vegas—We talked with LG about their gamut of products. The various product lines include media players, displays, monitors, and video conferencing systems.
The major introductions were for a transparent display, outdoor displays, and updates to the TV and sign combination displays. The transparent display provides a “see-through” experience for signage-enabled showcases, and tabletop or kiosk displays with product and signage visible simultaneously. The displays are available in 26- and 47-inch sizes and provide HD resolution. The displays use in-plane switching technologies to give high brightness and wide angle of view.
Outdoor displays are optimized for high-brightness areas. The latest versions have new anti-glare coatings on the front glass to reduce glare and reflections, which results in brighter, sharper images. The display technology also provides a temperature tolerance of up to 230° Fahrenheit (110° Celsius), which helps alleviate a common problem of screens overheating, which affects picture quality. One version of the display family has a built-in media player for content distribution.
The EzSign TV provides customizable content that runs in parallel with live TV or other external media source. The display comes with the software for content creation and includes 50 templates for the signage. Content is transferred to the display through USB drives. The family runs from 32- to 55-inches diagonal measurements.
A video wall panel can be configured in any size array up to 15 by 15 tiles. The 47-inch displays feature a 3.9 mm bezel on the top and left and 2.4 mm bezel on the right and bottom. The display has the anti-glare screen and high brightness. A smaller 55-inch display has 3.4 mm left and top bezels and 1.9 mm right and bottom bezels.
The company also has displays designed for smaller vertical markets. One version is a medical monitor that can add medical information into the TV screen while the TV is running. The vertical markets have support services available and need additional hardware to control the other functions.
