Intel Opens Developer Zone
September 12, 2012, Intel Developer Forum, San Francisco—Intel announced a new developer zone to aid their customers in producing new products. The new zone is a consolidation of all the other software and development sites and will address the issues facing developers. The site will include tools, collateral materials, and message boards to allow community members to share problems and solutions.
Other areas within the site include channels for apps developers and links to various investment opportunities. Some of the channels will include business practices and assistance in getting apps into commercial channels. The various segments will enable engaged communities within all the apps and development channels to benefit from common functions and technologies.
There are three categories for custom and development programs. The entry points are from a technology space, platforms, and by segment. The portals allow users to start from a processor or basic technology, desktop, laptop or mobile platform, or an application segment like utilities, apps, embedded, etc.
The tools and approaches differ across the various platforms, so an Atom processor is different from a tablet app. Atom-based tablets are a separate category. The tools are generally capable of cross platform work, so much of the development can be on an x86 platform and can be ported to the target.
The other platforms as targets include Android, Windows, Linux, and others. The tools can develop within an iA architecture, on an iA platform, and can target almost any combination of processor and OS. Special tools are available for HTML5 development as this is a language that is inherently cross-platform. A new SDK is available for HTML5.
The new site is a complete of the other Intel sites previously available at www.intel.com./software. The new site is called developer zone and is available at www.inteldz.com. The site will be live after the 9/12 keynote at 10 AM. This new site gives the user one address to access all of the tools and support information to develop applications on iA. This change should make life easier for developers by integrating and consolidating of all the resources for development.
