MasterImage 3D at CES 2013
January 2013 – At CES 2013, we met with MasterImages and saw their first form-factor correct glasses free 3D system using the Master Images 3D display process. Prior displays of the technology were in engineering boxes that had the correct display, but did not properly show the use model. The new displays were shown in a 4.5″ phone, 5/7″ super-phone, and a 7.0″ tablet all featuring 720p resolution. They were also showing a 10.1″ tablet with 080p resolution all featuring their parallax barrier technology.
Masteri Image 3D Parallax Barrier Stack
The technology is compatible with both OLED and TFT mfg flows and has an optical transparency of over 35%. The technology is available as a full module in a manufacturing flow with display / 3D and touch screen lamination and assembly. The Paralax barrier layer goes in the stack behind the touch screen, so it is touch technology independent. The finished modules are from thier facility as the alignment of the barier lays is key tot he performance of the system. They can participate as either and OEM or ODM supplier to the chain.
The new 3D matiral only increased the thinckness of the display by 0.65mm-1mm. The 3D function is only needed for 3D content, and does not require any power or impact 2D functions and viewing on the mobile products. The resulting displays have no change in the viewing angle for 2D content. The display technology is currently available for integration into prodution projects.
