World of Tanks and more at GDC 2014

March 2014 – At Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, the developers of World of Tanks and the leader in the combat action game genre was showing previews of their new games being updated and release. Their product offering leader is World of Tanks which currently sports 80M+ users world wide and is supported by a server base that spans the entire globe, include multiple servers for Africa. The games popularity has lead to peak concurrent game play of the MMO of 1.1M users.

For the V9.0 release, the upgrade on the game is on the technology front. Using the Havok physics engine, the new version sports realistic shadows, dynamic weather, and both surrounding and tank damage models. These are all Direct X proven elements and have been used to create native code level atmospheric effects and fire that has a volumetric build. These features are being released in April 2014, and will support 10 models of tank initially. The game is planned to add up to 270 tank models eventually.


WoT Screen maps – Multi Version and Atmophere

These advanced tech features are being placed into historic battles including eastern European boards. The game will also support drilldowns into localized clan wars. These are being launched on the PC platform.

On World of Tanks Xbox360, the features will be progressing to include the new tank models. So far on the platforms, there are 2.2M downloads with 75K concurrent users and a total of 5.6M battles as of March 2014. At the upcoming E3 show, there will be releasing new nations and map madness to the game.


WoT Blitz on Mobile Device

 

Their new launch was World of Tanks Blitz which is for mobile devices. The game is available on iOS and Android and is mid-level game experience – up from a casual game and not at the level of game play duration as a console/pc. The game is online in Beta in the cloud and is designed for 4-7min of game play per level. Like other games in their Wargamming family, there is both in game points and in game purchase for upgrades. At launch the game will have ~100 tanks, there are about 80 tanks from the US / USSR / Germany in the beta. The game is designed for a 7 vs 7 multi-player experience.

They were also showing World of Warships and World of Planes at the show. These will be receiving tech updates similar to the World of Tanks in the future.
