Zagg AutoFit Universal Folio Keyboard

 January 2015 – Zagg had a number of new products on display at CES 2015. These included a foldable Bluetooth keyboard using the new Bluetooth low power interface and new cases for the iphone6. We had a chance to check one of their 2014 products that is finding a strong niche in the marketplace – the Autofit Universal Folio Keyboard for tablets. Rather than being optimized for the iPad or the Galaxy tab line of tablet, it is a Bluetooth keyboard and case solution for any 7” or some 8” tablets.

The top of the folio is a spring loaded case that holds the tablet in a horizontal position. In this case, all the buttons are accessible, and the tablet is protected on the corners and edges from being bumped. The top also has a kick stand to help hold up the tablet when the keyboard is being used. The folio is designed to be used in a “laptop” layout mode, with a flexible hinge that holds the tablet display at various angles from the keyboard.

The keyboard is a standard Bluetooth 3 design that has a large rechargeable Li-ion battery that can hold the charge and provide operation for several months, and then be recharged via USB. The keyboard design is an island key style which is more of a laptop and detachable keyboard style as opposed to the membrane touch keys usually found in tablet accessory products.

The device connected and paired easily and has an on-off switch for quick use as a tablet with the on-screen touch keyboard or use of the Bluetooth keyboard. The discrimination on the pairing is quite good and it does not keep seeking to pair with other nearby devices once connected. The keyboard has a very functional arrow set, so in document movement and application selection can be done without issue.

The product works well, is very sturdily constructed and provides both button and screen protection for the tablet. The product is currently available from Zagg and its retailers.
