New tech at Always On Innovation

July 2015 – In addition to the keynote speakers and panels at the Always On Innovation Summit, there were a number of technology companies both exhibiting and presenting. Some of these companies that stood out in the way of presentations and demos were Kwilt, Atheer Labs, Tri Net, and the province of Ontario.

Kwilt was showing a media aggregation app that is available on iOS and Android. It used the metadata information on the images you have access to on your mobile devices. The search can include both local storage on the mobile device, external attached storage, social media and cloud storage locations. The app organizes all the info by date or other metadata tag and then streams the content to mobile device.

Atheer Labs AR Applications

Atheer Labs was showing their AR solution. The solution is a combination of custom hardware (current glasses and associated mobile computer for control), a custom RTOS that sits above Android and an enterprise management console and tools. The product is targeted towards IT and enterprise centric applications that include equipment maintenance and medical applications. The custom RTOS supports their proprietary gesture recognition and includes supports the use of gloves by the operator.

Trinet was talking about their new employee expansion options. They have a business model of co-hiring employees under the Trinet umbrella and providing payroll services and benefits packages. This allows for premium benefits that are typically reserved for large firms to be offered to small companies and startups. The model is currently supporting all employee types, but is optimized for office, operations and administration tasks. They did not have the information on key employee hires who are working on development tasks or IP related tasks and the ownership issues or if these scenarios are an issue for patentability of the developments created by these co-shared employees.

An interesting exhibitor that has been making a presence at many shows is the province of Ontario. They were promoting media creation, gaming development, software development, and ICT services to a global audience. The province in Canada was leveraging the past creation of award winning games, special effects and post production of award winning films and documentaries and both established Fortune 500 companies and startups in the software and ICT space.
