Production Pro helps visualize scripts

February 2016 – At the exhibit area of the DEW conference startup Production Pro was showing their visualization system that works with scripts. The tool will create a timeline based storyboard template with the scenes taken from the word doc or PDF of a script.

At this time, the standard cinema / TV script formats that are found in programs like Final Draft, can be used to create the visual storyboard. It includes characters, locations and key identifiers in the headers of the scene and has a placeholder for a graphic to represent the scene. The story boards can also be created from almost any section delimited document. This includes simple stories, advertising content and as a basis to transform social media conversations to both short form and long form content.

The visual format is like an object based spreadsheet – it is organized vertically by content for a scene (in a column) and spanning time in the horizontal direction. This allows for quick re-ordering of the scenes and adding characters/locations across multiple scenes with an “excel” like layout. The content is active, as changes in the script get reflected in the storyboard.

The initial release of the product is for standard scripts. In the process of development are the timelines and storyboards for other formats found in the script writing tools such as the Darkhorse or DC comic formats, video production, gaming scripts. The product is available under a variety of licensing options and works on laptops and mobile devices.
