Lenovo workstations at GTC 2016

April 2016 – The scientific computing space and the content creation space relies heavily on engineering workstations. At the Nvidia GTC expo, Lenovo was showing their new series of compute and graphics centric workstations that connect to the central servers and the Nvidia appliances.

The expo was showing the new line of portable workstations that had all been refreshed to support the Skylake processors from Intel. These support up to 4K displays that can be color calibrated, and on the 17” model, includes the color calibration hardware/software built in. All of the portable products have 1GbE connectivity with Nvidia discrete graphics on the motherboard (Quadro M5000) and up to 64GB of ECC RAM. The portables have been redesigned to support more storage with 2 SATA interfaces as well as 2 mSATA or PCIe drives along with 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports.

Lenovo Desktop Workstation P900 Series

The desktop platforms (P700/P800/P900) have received a refresh up to the Broadwell architecture Xeon chips from Intel. These platforms support up the 22 core chips. The desktop workstations all support DDR4 memory with up to 1TB DRAM on the P910 with 16 memory slots and 768GB DRAM on the P710 which has 12 slots. The desktop workstations support 10GbE NIC interfaces through a plug-in card.

For VR applications, the desktops support dual SLI graphics configurations on the Quadro cards, so high performance render for both eyes can be both synchronized. The platforms are all tested to support the Nvidia VRWorks and GameWorks SDKs.
