New Glasses at AWE 2018
June 2018 – At the 2018 Augmented World Expo (AWE) one of the major themes was new industrial targeted glasses for AR. While the consumer entertainment segment is focusing on VR, the IT and Enterprise space is continuing with their adoption of new AR viewing products to enhance their operational environments.
These products have to support the simultaneous condition strategy of (A) both high resolution image data and readable text data being displayed, (B) the ability to program and support multiple headsets being deployed simultaneously across the enterprise, (C) uniform IT integration and (D) mechanical reliability to work on high duty cycle (over 80%) in 8 hr shifts. These requirements for industrial AR are difference from the consumer entertainment applications.
At AWE there were several companies showing their new AR products for this industrial space including Third Eye Gen, Varjo and Epson. Epson was also showing the integration with their partner Byond.
