September 2019 – The most commonly referred to challenges on the new 17” high performance laptops is their size and weight. This is a tradeoff problem with no apparent solution. A 17” screen is BIG and it necessarily is bigger than a 13”-14” screen. Also the larger screen needs high performance and bright colors – so it consumes more power to drive the high resolution (4K+) and high frame rate needed for gaming. This also means big power supplies, big memory, big graphics cards all pushing these computers (workstations, XPS & Alienware, Origin PC, etc) into the 10+ lb class.

Not only are these computers heavy, but they also have accessories – mice, gaming mouse pads, gaming controllers, portable second screens, and even alternate game consoles. This full set of gear can be upwards of 20-25lbs when include standard ipads, phones, water and backup charging batteries.

This is a lot of wear and tear for a conventional backpack. Enter the Mobile Edge CORE Gaming backpack. Designed to support 17” laptops and workstations, the bag has multiple padded main pockets to give a safe carrying place for the computer, gaming console and all the accessories.
The bag has multiple small pockets to keep the individual controllers, cable, mice separated and easily accessible. There is also a pocket for the CORE Power 27,000 mAh power cell and a built in USB 3 cable to allow you to keep laptops and consoles charged whn being transported.

A hallmark of the gaming backpack is the main handle has an integrated wire cable that supports the bag and the laptop. The handle is also rivted to the bag, not just sewn on. At 25lbs in weight, fully loaded, the onehand load is very common, and is the single biggest failure point on other bags designed for heavy computers.
We were able to reconfigure the bag to be used a s transport for studio lights, a teleprompter system, an iPad, and power supply and the bag handled the load dor 8 moves a day for 3 days and had no issues. A slight adjustment on the pocket locations is needed to have it accommodate a content creation based application, but that bag would be released in the future.
