Nvidia Offerings – NAB 2011

April 11, 2011, NAB, Las Vegas—We stopped at the Nvidia booth and talked to Mark Priscaro and Daniel Shapiro about their latest developments. They showed their partners’ hardware-software integrations. Partners include Adobe, ARRI, ASSIMILATE, Autodesk, Avid, Chyron, Pixel Power, Quantel, and Vizrt, among many others.

GPUs are increasing their horsepower to do higher fidelity simulations including complex math of matter and particles. The applications can now use GPUs to perform complex math processing for image features like smoke particles and fluid flow for greater realism. Other functions that require a lot of processing include color correction and compositing in real-time.

In the viewing areas, the 3-D vision pro glasses are now using RF to sync the display and glasses, rather than IR, to permit greater user mobility and eliminate interference with the TV remote controls.

A combination of cloud resources and GPUs enables editing of 3-D video on a laptop plus a 3-D display panel. The GPU provides SDI I/O for low latency reach thru.

They also showed off a multi-channel story assembler that enables on-air story build-up and interactive displays. Integrated tele-illustrator capabilities are tied to the on-screen object, rather than the screen area. This video demonstration gives interactive reports and enables virtual networking. It allows any video plug-in or data type including video, pdf, HTML5, etc. and runs on a Windows 7 or Linux server.
