Flow Technology and Partnerships – IMG Tech ESC 2011

May 3, 2011 – San Jose, CA – At the Embedded Systems Conference Imagination Technologies was showing their new directions in Flow Technology. The standard IP business for IMG TECH is progressing. They have introduced a new UI for PowerVR for Set Top Box applications. These cores have shipped in over 500M chips, 100M+ of which are for high performance streaming video applications.

For the STB applications, IMG TECH was showing their product in an application frm FluffySpiderTech. Their Fancy Pants product has canned effects and modules for OpenGL. The IP supports both 2D and 3D visual effects and produces a MetaData display framework. The framework is driven an API for remote controls / gesture / other UIs. The first application that was being demonstrated was for a cable guide that includes both video and text overlayed on graphics. The STB marketplace utilizes the PowerVR cores.

They also debuted their Flow Technology that utilizes the METAflow processor chips is part of their IP over WiFi direction. With the home automation ecosystem becomming a ubiquitous connectivity environment, Flow has not become a full portal with UI for the delivery of both connectivity and content (software and media). The portal technology enables a connection between devices and the cloud. Used with the METAflow connected processor, it can enable delivery of services and content between service providers and end users through the could.

The Flow Technology consists of:
• METAflow platform hardware IP, advanced processor IP based on Imagination’s META and UCC technologies
o Support for Imagination’s MeOS embedded RTOS for small memory footprint, highly cost-optimised solutions
o Full support for Linux and Android-based applications platforms
o Hooks for Flow Technology’s essential device management functions
• Flow Technology APIs enabling the delivery of:
o Essential ‘product’ services for METAflow processor based devices including software update (FlowUpdate), unique device identification, registration etc.
o A continuously growing portfolio of Flow APIs and embedded services from the ecosystem of Flow Technology partners
• The FlowWorld portal (www.flowworld.com)
o High performance, scalable portal with growing capabilities
o Device management services enabling device manufacturers to update, track, and manage products in the field
o Consumer-facing capability with a configurable web-based interface enabling delivery of suitable user experience with minimal effort from end product developers
o Can be customised for and integrated with other portals
• An ever growing portfolio of services provided both by Imagination and an ecosystem of Flow Technology service partners
o Initial services include FlowPay (with Mi-Pay), FlowSongs (with 7Digital), FlowRadio (Imagination) and FlowSounds (Imagination)

Flow Technology is currently available for licensing and deployment. The idea is to allow for the creation of connected devices, connected through the web based portal, that can support dynamic software actions and provide services and media products with a standardized API.

In addition to these announcements, Imagination Technoligy annouced several new licencing partners. Their reference OpenGL and OpenCL graphics cores were recently licensed to Fujitsu, Mediatek, and Renesas Electric for thier mobile and STB products. These licensees are in addition to Intel, Samsung and several other leaders in the mobile markerplace.
