Snell at NAB
April 7, 20-13, National Association of Broadcasters, Las Vegas—We talked with Snell about their new product releases. The media consumption is changing to an on demand world, so technologies must evolve to match.
Despite the move to mobile, sports are still mostly live. Broadcasters are working to meet the demands for increased complexity and volume of content while reducing the costs per service. The changing markets are changing business models to greater agility and scale. The broadcasters have to become more agile, with scalable workflows. These changes require a platform that can support TV everywhere and also work with live TV.
The first announcement is migration of their tools to the cloud. The launch of the Snell On Demand framework moves its image-processing tools from dedicated hardware platforms to software-based applications that can be elastically provisioned in file, cloud-based, and virtualized infrastructures.
Next, TV Everywhere integrates Snell’s Momentum media workflow automation system, Morpheus playout automation system, and ICE channel-in-a-box solution. Working together, the products enable end-to-end broadcast workflow that ingests recorded content from a tablet device and sends it to the cloud, where it can be easily accessed for transcoding and playout. Momentum can be configured to push content in the correct format to any delivery platform including the Web and mobile devices.
And finally, they offer 4K functionality at no additional charge in a range of products. These products include select routing switchers, fiber infrastructure, and the Kahuna 360 multi-format production switcher for mix and match of any combination of SD, HD, 1080p, and 4K sources in the production environment.
