April 20 , 2015, Cloud Security Alliance, San Francisco—Mark Goodman, an author, described the ongoing and increasing challenges for security and our other infrastructure. Many threats are already here and the potential for serious damage is increasing. Goodman started out as a police officer and noted many trends of crime over time. Criminals were early…
March 19, 2015, GPU Technology Conference, San Jose, CA—Jeff Brue from Open Drives described the work in developing and implementing a native 6k workflow. Part of the effort is to anticipate the eventual move to 8k and the balance is to get more out of their infrastructure. The primary motivation was to bring effects closer…
February 9 2015, Electronic Imaging Conference, San Francisco—Peter Nugent from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory described the efforts in incorporating big data techniques to detecting and observing super nova phenomena. The two major conflicting problems are in observing the whole sky for changes and the need for higher power telescopes, which have smaller field of view,…
October 10, 2014, Audio Engineering Society Convention, Los Angeles—A panel looked at the ongoing transition from analog to digital and the infrastructure changes needed to move to a fully digital workflow. Marty Sacks from the Telos Alliance moderated the panel and the panelists were Rich Zweibel from dsc, Terry Holton from Yamaha, and Stephen Lederbergen…
May 2014, Internet of Things Conference, Santa Clara, CA—We talked with Uday Mudoi from Vitesse about the company and their products. They are falling back on their years of experience in Ethernet products to change the company focus. The drivers are in the growing acceptance of FbE in enterprise networks. Although the internals of the…
May 7, 2014, Internet of Things Conference, Santa Clara, CA—Tareq Bustami from Freescale Semiconductor described the convergence of networking technologies for IoT. The changes in architectures and technologies will allow data to move across many platforms and communications networks with minimal friction. The IoT can be shown to be associated with many network concepts from…
May 1, 2014, Ethernet Technology Summit, Santa Clara, CA—John D’Ambrosia from Dell envisioned the paths leading to a TbE network. The efforts in defining the next-generation transport technologies is starting now. Speed will always exist as a limiting factor in all electronics. For networks, the latest efforts are to get to 400GbE, even though many…
