Avid new releases – NAB 2011
April 10, 2011, NAB, Las Vegas—Avid is looking to address the convergence of broadcast and IT in the industry with their latest tool releases. Considering that the only 30 percent of the broadcast industry has converted to HD, they are adding to their product lineup to enable more broadcasters to move to their file-based flows.
They announced some open solutions and partners. EUCON is Avid’s high-speed Ethernet control protocol that allows Artist Color and other Avid Artist Series control surfaces to connect to a variety of third party creative audio and video software solutions. EUCON is currently supported by a wide cross section of Macintosh- and Windows-based applications.
Content creators can use Avid Artist Color to control the color grading features of Assimilate Scratch, Image Systems Nucoda (formerly Digital Vision), and Pomfort Silverstack SET Edition via native support for Avid’s EUCON protocol. Avid is also previewing EuControl version 2.6 at NAB, delivering Windows functionality for Artist Color.
Avid InGame , an end-to-end video production solution for sports marketing organizations. This release includes workflow integration and qualification with editing, graphics creation, storage, asset management, and archive systems. The systems include real-time shared storage, asset management, and an archive management software based data tape library, with 10 slots and 1 LTO drive enabling integrated storage and browsing of archived assets. In addition, they are offering project planning, commissioning, system and component training, and one year of Avid Priority Support, all performed by experienced industry professionals. The Avid InGame solution is expected to be available in Q2 2011. Pricing for Avid InGame will start at $259,995 GRP.
Version 2.0 of NewsVision, is an entry-level newsroom solution that allows local and regional broadcasters to achieve greater agility and efficiency with file-based news production. NewsVision 2.0 comes standard with a set of industry-leading Avid solutions, including: a four-channel Avid AirSpeed Multi Stream ingest and playout server; an Avid ISIS 5000-16 shared-storage system, a total of five editing clients in any combination of Media Composer and NewsCutter; and on-site Avid Professional Services, Training, and Support. NewsVision 2.0 is expected to be available in Q2 2011 at a starting price of $129,995 GRP.
Interplay Central and Interplay Central Mobile are focused on tools for individual users that are delivered in a framework of workflow tools through both web- and mobile-based apps. Data is accessed and stored in a cloud, enabling off-line or out of range work, with updates to files, implemented when network connections are available. First workflow solution product available to users through both a lightweight, intuitive web-based portal and a mobile app.
All these files need a place to reside, so they released the Avid ISIS 5000-16—a 16TB storage system with flexibility to handle changing production needs and shared access. The dynamically scalable workspaces can span storage engines and applications. Storage capacity from 16TB to 96TB (6 ISIS 5000-16 Engines) and bandwidth to 1.8GB/sec.
The storage system uses a self-balancing data architecture resulting in linear and predictable scalability. User tools include comprehensive set-up, administration, and diagnostic user interface. Target markets are small- to mid-size postproduction facilities, rental houses, broadcasters, educational institutions, and government agencies. Avid ISIS 5000-16 is expected to be available Q2 2011. Pricing will start at $37,500 GRP which includes Force10 S25N 24-port switch, a one-year Priority Support (5×8), and 90 client licenses.
