Volicon – Nexida bring advanced QOE to Captions

April 2015 – At NAB 2015, a joint press conference by Volion and Nexidia showed their new captioning QC compliance systems and caption alignment/retiming tool. The 21st Century CVAA requires captioning on broadcast and internet replay of video content for the hearing impaired. For the captioning to be relevant, it has to be both accurate and timed properly with the video. The current requirement is for greater than 98% accuracy on the captions.

VOlicon Nexcidia Closed Captioning and retiming

In order to meet these specifications and the constraints of simultaneous streaming video and broadcast content, Volicon which is best known for conformance testing tools and Nexidia which best known for their voice analysis engines have created a joint product offering. It leverages the phonics based analysis and deconstruction of voice streams to create a caption string. This is done with a neural processing engine designed by Nexidia that came out of the research at Georgia Tech. These phonic sound bites are then reassembled with the correct timing of the original spectral voice stream.

This processing is done at 50-60x the live play back rate in order to assure time sync correctness. The solution is currently being offered in 22 languages.
