Avid Expands Lineup

 April 15, 2012, NAB, Las Vegas– Avid announced new tools for staged transitions in workflows to keep them in parallel. These software upgrades and changes take advantage of increased storage capacity and higher performance computer systems.

The storage and asset management software has increase capacity for more access, including online. These tools allow real-time media networks to access up to 4.6 petabytes, and 20,000 near line apps for bulk storage. Another set of tools addresses I/O and management, and a video server is high availability, higher capacity, and open to third-party editors. All of these tools are available with expert support for one year.

Multiscreen is a technical challenge as is multiplatform distribution, which requires the integration of the news and Web teams. New methodologies allow workflow automation, automatic transcoding and media preparation.

Because broadcast is a global community, everyone needs to reduce remote costs and needs access to much of the assets wherever they are. Cloud-enabled tools are able to increase automation with intelligent opening and real-time control.

In Q4, they will have a 4K toolset and also more tools for 3-D. Most of the other tools already have capacity for this level workflow. A new tool is available for the iPad that provides new flows for editing and shot selection. The various changes in the audience affect post, and professional functions the most in the broadcast context.

To take advantage of cloud storage, they introduced Sphere, a package for remote sports. This new technology enables new applications by using the depth of bandwidth to enable editing and downloading of content almost anywhere.
