Hamlet from the London’s Barbican by Tomasz Kolodziejak

November 2015 – On November 10 Fathom Events, National Theatre Live and BY Experience presented a performance of Hamlet for a special one night encore at various theaters in United States. Academy Award nominee Benedict Cumberbatch played title role in Lyndsey Turner’s production of “Hamlet” produced by Sonia Friedman Productions and presented by the Barbican, which recently opened in London.

William Shakespeare wrote the tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark sometime between 1599 and 1602. It is the longest play of this author but also the most influential in English literature with the endless adaptation over the 400 years. The many verses of Hamlet become unmortar including the most famous one “to be or not to be”.

The Barbican version stars Benedict Cumberbatch who is well recognized by the recent success of “The Imitation Game” (2014) fame in the title role. As being prized by cinema here on the stage he brings the great vibrant performance that proof of his ambiguous talent; his Prince of Denmark has been bringing all variety of moods. This version of Hamlet is not the classical ones and seems to be mixed with styles including costumes, scenography and characters. Horatio for example is modern type with bag pack and tattoos. There is no one interpretation of the Shakespeare tragedy and that is a beauty of every production. Definitely 3 hours and 20 minutes event including 20 minutes intermission was a real treat for theater/cinema goers and Benedict Cumberbatch fans as well.
