September 22, 2015, SNIA Storage Developer Conference, Santa Clara, CA—Jeff Chang from AgigA Tech and Arthur Sainio from Smart Modular presented a cookbook for NV DIMM use. The learning objectives are to understand what an NVDIMM is, how they can improve system performance, and how to integrate them into your system. The modifications to hardware,…
September 22, 2015, SNIA Storage Developer Conference, Santa Clara, CA—Andy Rudoff from Intel and the SNIA NVM programming TWG spoke about the coming changes in non-volatile memory programming models. The emergence of a new class of non-volatile memory will blur the definitions of memory and storage and bring about many changes in computer architectures. The…
September 22, 2015, SNIA Storage Developer Conference, Santa Clara, CA—Jim Handy from Objective Analysis talked about the future of solid state storage and the changing nature of both memory and storage. new technologies will enable architectures better suited for the data needs of he future. In the early days of computers, the industry established a…
September 21, 2015, SNIA Storage Developer Conference, Santa Clara, CA—Christina Lara from IBM explained why system-level verification must include full scale testing. Many installations see peaks of activity that can overload systems and small user base equivalent testing will not stress the system enough to bring out these problems. Most systems are built from a…
September 21, 2015, SNIA Storage Developer Conference, Santa Clara, CA—Rick Kuticipal and Greg McSorley from the SCSI Trade Association provided an update on the SCSI standards. The standards are evolving along with the many changes in the storage technologies. The latest additions to the SAS standards and roadmaps include 12 Gb/s SAS, advanced connectivity, Multi-link…
September 22, 2015, SNIA Storage Developer Conference, Santa Clara, CA—Bev Crair from Intel Storage Group described the drivers and motivations for changing your ideas about storage. The next generation of storage will be a function of innovation, disruption, and trailing-edge technologies. The primary drivers are: information growth, with data size doubling every two years through…
September 21, 2015, SNIA Storage Developer Conference, Santa Clara, CA—Tejas Wanjari from EMC presented concepts on in-memory data mirroring integrity in distributed systems. The intent is to more clearly identify error sources and error mitigation processes. New systems are redefining data changes. Disc checksums are for older data and now undetected corruption is not acceptable…
September 21, 2015, SNIA Storage Developer Conference, Santa Clara, CA—Luke Behnke from Bitcasa surmised that the move to the cloud is a challenge for developers who face the choices of building infrastructure or losing your data in someone’s box. The changing nature of storage is driving the need to store more data in restricted spaces….
