USA’s Psych Continues on a Creative Path

USA\’s Psych – James Roday & Dule Hill

July 2012 – At the panel discussion and interviews, the main cast of USA Network’s series Psych discussed ideas and episodes for the upcoming season. The show, starring Dule Hill and James Roday as psychic detective consultants to the local police department, has been on the leading edge of creativity in theme based shows for a series. In the past, they have done a large number of shows that focused on the favorite TV shows and films of the cast, many of whom have taken a secondary role of directing episodes of the series. The most elaborate and memorable of these past episodes were the homage to Alfred Hitchcock, and the TV series Twin Peaks.

This upcoming season, the audience will be seeing a “lost footage” episode, more tap dancing (a skill highly refined by Dule Hill and Timothy Omundson), and a full cast musical that features the real voices of the cast members. Once again this season, the show is focusing on plot and high quality scripts rather than special effects to bring the story about. The season has some controversy as to the status of the character “Henry”, played by Corbin Bersen, the father of lead character “Shawn”, as to whether or not the character has passed away. In the interview, where Bersen was wearing a t-shirt with a large question mark in the middle of the chest, he alluded to the fact that in the scope of the show, the character being dead or alive does not really impact the role the character plays. The options of alive and interacting, interacting in flash back, or interacting on a “psychic plane” are all valid options for the current story lines, some will just require some transition effects to blend the scenes.

The show continues to present the idea that quality writing and directing, will bring and hold a loyal following. As a result, the whole cast is still having fun with the project, and bringing new ideas to the table for viewers to consume.
