Lunera brings LEDs to standard commercial fixtures

April 2014, There has been a lot of discussion about the emergence of LED lighting into the commercial space to replace incandescent and CFL bulbs. One of the big limitations on the replacement, is the ability to have a retrofit bulb that can run in the existing fixtures and ballast system. While the bulb cost on a 1:1 basis of lifetime, power, and light output is easy to justify with LED technology, the realty cost of the permitting, down time and service/replacement cost for the fixture to use these bulbs is generally beyond the scope of the ROI. This is especially true in leased spaces, where the tenant would have to bear a great deal of the cost of the lease-hold improvements to change the fixtures.

Lunerahas addressed this issue with several lines of LED lights that run from standard 4pin and 2 pin CFL sockets. This allows for project based sustainability and ROI while maintaining the existing depreciation and installation of the lighting fixtures in the commercial building.

This means, no permits, no downtime, no electrical service costs – only the bulb replacement and installation cost for the project. The ROI on the new bulbs is based on a 50,000 operating life and a 50% reduction in operating power (a 13w LED bulb has the same lumens of output as a 26w CFL). The designs include their own lensing system with integrated reflectors, so the bulbs will work in reflector-less fixtures.

These LEDs for the CFL replacement are now joined with a second line of LED lighting that is available in power ratings to replace 175W, 250W, and 400W Metal Halide bulbs. Once again these offer a 50,000 hr life, an a power draw at 25%-35% of the Metal Halide bulb. These are also just socket compatible replacements and operate from the existing ballast, so there is no permitting or electrical work required to achieve the cost benefit. Unlike the CFL replacements, due to the high power of the Metal Halide bulbs – a “pro” level same lumens output bulb is available as well as a “junior” bulb which is targeted at lower light level applications with the same ballast.

These lights are available now and join the 4’ troffers that are available for new and retrofit commercial construction with standard 4’ suspended modular ceilings.
