Innovative Tech at Cosmoprof 2014

July 2014 – At the Cosmoprof Expo there was a number of new technologies and uses of materials, not just new scientific formulations and manufacturing/distribution partners for the industry. The new tech and innovation spread over a pretty large area of content. Some of the highlights companies and products that caught our eye are overviewed below.

Tat’z Nail’z – We first met these folks at CES 2013. Their now in production unit is an automated fingernail printer that can do not only patterns, but can print photos and logos on your nails. The standalone unit has a number of pre-loaded designs, and the ability to load designs from a computer or USB. The unit also features a camera that can import faces and photos into the unit. The printer prints one nail at a time, so you can have a different design for each finger. As the unit is just printing on a ready to polish nail, so cosmetology license is required to operate the unit. The unit can also print artificial nails which can be printed in advance for large volume occasions.

Neck TITE Magic – This small woman owned and operated company in Rhode Island sought a non-surgical solution to a neck lift. Rather than develop a new material themselves, they partnered with a leader in the biomedical supply and hospital supply industry and worked with them to repurpose a high quality, known performance material into a new application. The product is easy to apply and use as well as giving a good under result in under 1 minute. Additionally, it has a known (over 40 years) safety record and hospital level validation for the materials.

Emani – Focusing on a growing market they provide elemental and vegan cosmetics products. The vegan products are 100% gluten free. The rise of gluten allergies around the world has not only affected the food selection for these individuals, but in a lot of cases has driven them from the ability to use makeup. They have created a full line of cosmetics of high quality and performance for this community.

Majic Beauty EyeMajic system

Majic Beauty – They have released a product called EyeMajic which is a specialized applicator with complex eyeshadow patterns all ready applied and a thermal technology that allows for the eye shadow to transfer. The sell the applicators as single colors or as a 16 unit kit. In addition to the 3 layer pattern design, they can print other designs such as leopard finish in 6 colors. They have the capability to do specialized designs including words for the eye shadow on the applicator. Like most of these innovations, the goal is ease of use and reduction of time to put on makeup. For professional use, the system allows for guaranteed continuity of look by having the standardized applicator an color system in place.

Sparoom Aroma Therapy Diffusers/Misters

Sparoom – They have created a new ultramist diffuser and atomoizer for aroma therapy. The new units can support multiple hours of use and incorporate colored light therapy with the aroma therapy. They have extended the product line to address more areas where these diffusers can be used by making a battery operated/USB operated device and an AromaPen that holds the oils in a special end cap. This allows the cap to be removed when the aroma therapy is being used, but contains the oils in standard use and when in areas where people may be sensitive to the aromas.

Light Stim Handheld Light Therapy

LightStim – Long time supplier to the health care and spa industries, they have released several consumer targeted IR/UV light therapy devices to the market. Designed to help improve injury recovery and pain as well as acne relief and wrinkle reduction. Since 2001 the company has been providing these products in large format 2 panel system for use on patients and clients. The new consumer units use the same control electronics and LED lights, but in a smaller handheld unit. The units are supported by a smartphone App that guides and keep track of treatment times and uses.
