Pericom product updates
August 18, 2015 at the Intel Developer Forum, San Francisco—The Pericom Semiconductor Corporation announced new families of high-speed support products for use in diverse applications including notebook, smart phone, tablet and servers. The new products address the needs for switching, connectivity, signal-integrity and timing functions for the highly complex multi-protocol interfaces.
The signal integrity solutions for 1 to 11.3 GHz signals include selectable input and output termination and impedance detection. Channel equalization is independently programmable on a per channel basis and the amplifier designs were changed to be linear with no clipping to handle the link training signaling for the latest interfaces. High linearity in these reproduces the input signal, not a regenerator with “perfect” characteristics. Previous were less linear, but were mostly for retiming clocks. Parts come in 4- and 8-channel versions. The primary applications are in source-side storage and backplanes.
Switching products are intended to support multi-protocol systems such as USB 3.0 and DP 1.2 switching through USB Type C connectors. These differential switches use either pin or I2C control for configuration and support the various modes of Type C connector functions. The product family includes all the different switching, detection, and control functions needed for the Type C connectors including handshaking, self-configuration, and power delivery.
The support for USB 3.0 also has signal integrity products that offer adjustable receiver equalization, configurable output emphasis, and automatic receiver detection. The parts also have automatic sleep modes for adaptive power management. The USB products are directed towards the mobile devices and notebook computers.
Redrivers for motherboard functions help to interface internal and external peripherals like SATA ports to the I/O hub while also supporting PCIe drives on a m.2 connector. A combo redriver offers two 8 Gbps differential signal pairs, has adjustable equalization, integrated 100 ohm termination, and input level detect and squelch per channel. The parts are PCIe 3.0 and SATA 3.0 compatible.
Finally, the company is offering a low-power 32 kHz crystal oscillator for real-time clocks. More details and specifications for all of the products are available at the company’s website www.Pericom.com. In addition, the site includes other supporting resources on all of the products and their intended applications.
